Some special news! Not one but TWO releases this week for Bandcamp Friday!* (5th December)
1) The ‘Count of Anjou’ track that I released as a limited-edition stream/download last Bandcamp Friday seemed to be a roaring success, so I’ve decided to release another of these ‘research mixes’ of the songs I met as part of my PhD work. It is called ‘Complaint’ and it’s a live-looped arrangement of ‘A vous, amant’ by the Chatelain de Coucy (d.1204) – pictured here in a late 13th-century manuscript. 2) My friends at Dark Alchemy are planning to release ‘Spirit of Winter’ Volume I, a recording of the improvised live session we did in the medieval crypt of St John on the Wall in Bristol around this time last year. The spirit of winter was definitely there: my vielle wanted to re-tune itself, and I think you can actually hear the cold (and perhaps some emanations of the past?) in the recording. The atmosphere and acoustics of the place were very unusual; check it out on Friday at https://darkalchemybristol.bandcamp.com/
