]]> Just released! This brand new track pushes the limits of the hammered dulcimer in terms of the more unusual sounds that can be created on the instrument. The poor phantasmaphone did complain a bit after the recording and I had to give it some extra pampering!

Based on the idea of the Tagnachtlampe – the lamp which, when switched on, turns day into night – the track has a fabulous video made by Emily Bailey, who has really surpassed herself with this one:

I hope you’re all doing okay out there. As you may be aware, it’s another Bandcamp Friday this week and I’m taking the opportunity to offer you a little preview of my new EP ‘Rota Fortunae II’ (due for release in February 2021). Yes that’s right – there will actually be new music on my page for the first time in six months! Amazing!

I’m going to release the track ‘Just Born’ on Friday, here: https://katearnolduk.bandcamp.com/. If you purchase it, I will send you a discount code that will be valid for the new EP when it’s released.

Ideally I’d be releasing the whole EP right now, but one small-but-crucial part of the process has been held up by… well, you know – all the stuff that’s going on. I just really want to bring you a little something before the year is out! I hope it will whet your appetites.

]]> The stalwart folks at Chaos Theory (http://chaostheorymusic.co.uk/) have just shared a video of me doing a version of ‘Threes and Sevens’ in the church of St Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield, at the Hazel Iris album launch back in October. That night was definitely one the highlights of my year. From now on I think I will only play in twelfth-century churches, preferably ones with some of the original tile work still visible.* Thanks again to Hazel, to Chaos Theory and to Peter Junge for recording and mixing.

I had a wonderful time doing this; did a live performance of the Fear of the Forest song Fairy Tale Ending, in collaboration with Breton poet Claire Trévien, and took part in a fascinating discussion about the forest as metaphor in poetry, art and culture – in some illustrious company!
