Just released! This brand new track pushes the limits of the hammered dulcimer in terms of the more unusual sounds that can be created on the instrument. The poor phantasmaphone did complain a bit after the recording and I had to give it some extra pampering!

Based on the idea of the Tagnachtlampe – the lamp which, when switched on, turns day into night – the track has a fabulous video made by Emily Bailey, who has really surpassed herself with this one:

An evening of electrical mysticism, as thereminist and inventor Sarah Angliss brings you dreamlike music, featuring her phantasmagoria of music machines. Angliss performs live with Stephen Hiscock, percussionist of EnsembleBash and vocalist Sarah Gabriel. Robotic carillons, telephonic counterpoint and a new instrument made from the salvaged parts of a Welsh chapel organ are in the mix.

Kate Arnold conjures a startling array of sounds with hammered dulcimer, violin, vocals, live looping and ‘glitchy electronica’; darkly comic original songs, extraordinary reinterpretations of traditional folk material, and elusive soundscapes that are ethereal, sinister, and joyous by turns.

She also fronts ‘punk baroque’ ensemble Fear of the Forest, and has worked with artists such as Lisa Knapp, Daemonia Nymphe, Doudou Cissoko and Rose McDowall.

VIDEO – ‘Threes and Sevens’ at St Bart’s church in October 2018

The stalwart folks at Chaos Theory (http://chaostheorymusic.co.uk/) have just shared a video of me doing a version of ‘Threes and Sevens’ in the church of St Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield, at the Hazel Iris album launch back in October. That night was definitely one the highlights of my year. From now on I think I will only play in twelfth-century churches, preferably ones with some of the original tile work still visible.* Thanks again to Hazel, to Chaos Theory and to Peter Junge for recording and mixing.

GIG – 25th October 2018 – Hazel Iris ‘Nine Sisters’ album launch

I’ll be playing a pretty unique set at this event; ‘eccentric singer/storyteller’ Hazel Iris’ launch gig for her new album ‘Nine Sisters’. Hazel also performed at the Fear of the Forest show at London’s Strongroom in 2017; she was and is amazing. An unusual and atmospheric venue for this event; the medieval church of St Bartholomew in London. I don’t want to give away too much about the set I’m planning just yet, but it will be in keeping with the setting! I will be performing totally unplugged – no loop, no effects – so you can expect completely new and exclusive material. Other acts include an internationally acclaimed concert pianist, an operatic soprano and puppets (?!) so I really think this is one not to be missed.

GIG – 21st October 2018 – Sieben/Kate Arnold/Andy Whitehouse live in London

The first of two fantastic support slots I’ve got coming up in October. Really excited about both of them, and they’re each very different. First, a show on 21st with the mighty Sieben; violin looping virtuoso with more than a touch of punk sensibility! I love Matt’s music and I’m overjoyed to be doing a gig with him; this will be a treat for live looping fans!
