Just released! This brand new track pushes the limits of the hammered dulcimer in terms of the more unusual sounds that can be created on the instrument. The poor phantasmaphone did complain a bit after the recording and I had to give it some extra pampering!

Based on the idea of the Tagnachtlampe – the lamp which, when switched on, turns day into night – the track has a fabulous video made by Emily Bailey, who has really surpassed herself with this one:

This has been in the pipeline for a while… Delighted to be able to share it with you! Occasionally, other people’s songs ‘fall under the hammers’ so well that they could have been written for the dulcimer. I’ve always loved this song by Spear of Destiny and when I found that it had this rare hammer-friendly quality I had to cover it. Even better, Emily Bailey, who created the visual alchemy for ‘For Barely One in a Thousand (The Practice of Lights)’ was inspired to make this spectacular video. Special thanks to Kirk Brandon for allowing me to attack his song with my hammers!

VIDEO – ‘Threes and Sevens’ at St Bart’s church in October 2018

The stalwart folks at Chaos Theory (http://chaostheorymusic.co.uk/) have just shared a video of me doing a version of ‘Threes and Sevens’ in the church of St Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield, at the Hazel Iris album launch back in October. That night was definitely one the highlights of my year. From now on I think I will only play in twelfth-century churches, preferably ones with some of the original tile work still visible.* Thanks again to Hazel, to Chaos Theory and to Peter Junge for recording and mixing.
